15th Century – Doctrine of Discovery:
I re-think so many instances popping up in current events where people's inherent dignity as fellow children of God is ignored by those more powerful. And think of the historical antecedents - of genocide, peonage, prejudice, Jim Crow, displacement - all the way from Biblical "possess" by "dispossesing", to "Trail of Tears" to Monroe doctrines, various hegemony claims countered by irredentism, red lines, class/religions/ color/status walls between the brothers and sisters that deny a God-given common earth home, and oikos/household of family.
Then I run across the following link, and find there was an historical moment when this negative human tendency received an imprimatur that institutionalized into law and custom.
